India: Cloud Computing for Education 04/13/2012
Preparing students – particularly Engineering / Technical graduate students – towards tomorrow’s global work force is definitely a daunting task. Whether it is sweating out in Indian metro’s for so called IT majors like TCS, Infosys, Wipro etc., in low end IT services or assisting big giants like Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc., in their high end pursuit, it is an acknowledged simple fact that Indian graduates have made their mark of contribution in the past. How can this trend be continued? Will the changing global technology and business environment have its effect on this challenge? What are the plans the Indian educators need to follow? AICTE – All India Council for Technical Education – with its vision of ‘enhancing the global competitiveness of technical manpower’ – is in the news having taken a bold step of aligning with Microsoft’s cloud deployment. Microsoft is reported to have grabbed the largest cloud customer ever with this initiative! The cloud deployment will expand students' access to high-quality technical education and collaboration. How? When? Who are the stake holders besides Microsoft and AICTE? Through live@edu... Over the next three months / deployment started and will be implemented fully by 2012 summer… More than 10000 technical colleges and institutions / 500 000 faculty member / 75 00 000 students ( Microsoft says that more than double the size of Los Angeles population … "Microsoft's cloud platform will make for a truly progressive ecosystem and contribute to the country's technical education by providing a better communication and collaboration platform for institutes and students," said Dr. S.
